Why not use Grammarly or an AI tool for editing?
Why not use Grammarly or an AI tool for editing?
Grammarly, Wordvice, and Scribendi are all excellent websites that can help you with editing your works. The problem I see with these services is that they are impersonal. You are assigned to an editor that may have hundreds of other works they are also assisting, and to get better service you are often asked to upgrade to a premium service package. If you do not upgrade, then you are stuck doing part of the editors job figuring out which edits are useful or not.
As for AI based tools, these are still relatively new to the editing world. Many of these tools are still learning and adapting as they go. They may provide edits that are grammatically correct but lack awareness of the overall flow of the work. Many cannot tell you which edits they have made or why they changed it, leaving you to beta read your own work over again. (That's not even touching on any of the ethical issues they pose.)
